Brazos CAD to add Three Elected Members to Board of Directors as of July 1, 2024

With the passage of Proposition 4 at the November 2023 election, all counties with a population of 75,000 or more will include three elected members to be placed on the Appraisal District Board of Directors effective July 1, 2024.

Elected members will take office on July 1, 2024 and serve through December 31, 2026.   Qualifications to serve as a member of the board of directors include, but are not limited to, being a resident of the county for at least two years preceding the date you take office and you may not have appraised property or represented property owners for compensation for at least three years.

The primary responsibilities of the Board of Directors include establishing the appraisal district office, appointing the Chief Appraiser, adoption of the biennial reappraisal plan and annual budget, approving litigation settlements and approving contract services.

During the application process, three candidates filed for these positions in Brazos County: one for Place 1, one for Place 2 and one for Place 3.  Because there are no contested races for these three positions, it is no longer necessary for these offices to be placed on the ballot, and incur a significant cost, to hold the General Election to be held in May 2024.  The Board of Directors has approved and signed a Certification of Unopposed Candidates for Other Political Subdivisions (Not County) as well as a Sample Order of Cancellation at their most recent regular scheduled meeting.  The newly elected members will be sworn in and fill their positions after July 1, 2024.
